AU and ICRC to celebrate 30 years of partnership

INVITATION TO THE REPRESENTATIVES OF THE MEDIA

What: Joint press conference to commemorate the 30^th anniversary of the African Union (AU) and International Committee of the Red Cross’s (ICRC) partnership. AU Commission and ICRC officials will talk about upcoming challenges, including the current food crisis, conflicts, and the adverse effects of the pandemic.

When: Wednesday May 04, 2022, at 2:30 PM. The press conference is to be held ahead of the event 

Where: Hyatt Regency Hotel, Meskel Square, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Who: The Press Conference will be addressed by the leadership of the African Union and ICRC.

Why: The aim of the cooperation between AU and ICRC is to cooperate on humanitarian issues related to armed conflict, promote a better knowledge of, and respect for, the International Humanitarian Law (IHL) by AU member states and provide legal support to the AU Commission for the mainstreaming of IHL into decision and policies.

Participants: The event will be attended by high level AU officials, RECs, diplomatic representatives of African and non-African states, the European Union delegation and different international organizations.

Media representatives are invited to attend and cover the commemoration of the 30^th anniversary of the African Union (AU) and International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) partnership. Attached the Programme for the event.
