Commemoration of the African Integration Day.

Theme: ‘Deepening African Economic Integration in the Era of De-Globalization’

What: The African Integration Day is commemorated every 7th of July. The commemorative activities of 2022 will focus on “Deepening African Economic Integration in the Era of De-Globalization”.

 

When: From 6th to 8th July 2022. 9AM CAT | 10AM EAT.

Who: The Department of Economic Development, Trade, Tourism, Industry and Mining (ETTIM) of the African Union Commission. 

Background information.

The overall objective of the commemoration 2022 African Integration Day and Forum is for African governments, private sector, civil society, RECs and AU partners to deliberate on how to utilize regional and continental integration processes and initiatives as instruments and platforms to foster accelerated Africa’s economic recovery in the post-COVID period, under the theme ‘Deepening African Economic Integration in the Era of De-globalization’,

The following outcomes are expected:

  1. To promote civic participation for an inclusive implementation of Africa’s regional integration agenda. This is essential to foster the popularization of the idea of regional integration and promoting broad citizen
  2. To improve policy formulation through the production of a Meeting Report and a Progress Report on the implementation of initiatives launched during the commemorations of the Africa Integration Day;
  3. To enhance understanding and awareness by Africans on the Continent and in the Diaspora on integration matters, and AfCFTA in particular, and the current status of its implementation;
  4. To galvanize political will and leadership for Africa’s integration through advocacy efforts targeted at AU Member States to accelerate the ratification, domestication and implementation of AU legal instruments related to continental integration, especially the Protocol to the African Economic Community on Free Movement of Persons, Right of Residence and Right of Establishment;
  5. To accelerate the implementation of major treaties and protocols, including those related to the establishment of 3 proposed African Union financial institutions (namely, the African Central Bank, African Investment Bank, and African Monetary Fund) among others; and
  6. To enhance cooperation between AU institutions, RECs, and Member States on regional integration matters; and
  7. To share major lessons learned on how to accelerate Africa’s post economic recovery efforts.
