Who: The African Union Commission, Department of Health, Humanitarian Affairs and Social Development, The Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, Blue Economy, and Sustainable Environment (ARBE) in partnership with the the International Organization for Migration, the Republic of Kenya , the Republic of Mozambique and the Portuguese Republic.

Objective:

In close to two decades, the number of international migrants in Africa has witnessed a sharp increase – and climate change is, among other factors, one of the most significant drivers of migration today. The event is intended to be a relevant contribution to the debate around the climate - migration nexus and to the efforts around global awareness and preparedness.

Expected Outcomes:

  1. Ensure wider recognition of the climate – migration nexus among AU Member States and International Community.
  2. Promote greater coordination and exchange of best practices among Countries impacted by the nexus and relevant stake holders.
