Objective

The 2023 Global Africa People-to-People Forum will advance the collective interests of people of African heritage, while fostering strategic partnerships and promoting cross-cultural exchange.

Participation

The Forum will be attended by civil society organisations (CSO) stakeholders from all five regions of the continent working in relevant fields, including academia, media, youth groups, women’s groups, advocacy organizations, community-based organisations, non-governmental organizations including faith-based organizations, and regional CSO networks. Participation in the Forum will also reflect other relevant interest groups including member states, regional economic communities, regional mechanisms on peace and security, AU organs, and international partner organizations.

Background

In September 2020, a pivotal meeting was convened between distinguished representatives of the African Union's Economic Social and Cultural Council (AU-ECOSOCC) and the Caribbean Pan-African Network (CPAN), during which a momentous resolution was reached to establish an Africa/Caribbean People-to-People Forum. This visionary initiative is geared towards facilitating continual and effective communication, interaction, and collaborative partnerships among people of African descent both on the African continent and in the Diaspora. The ultimate goal of this endeavour is to promote solidarity within both governmental and civil society domains. The Forum is also an integral component of the annual Pan-African FestivalTT (PAFTT) Commemorating Emancipation, expertly hosted by the esteemed Emancipation Support Committee of Trinidad and Tobago (ESCTT). Consequently, the Forum also serves as a significant milestone in the persistent endeavours to solidify relationships among people of African heritage, both within the African continent and in the Diaspora. The forum was renamed and is now the "Global Africa People-to-People Forum." The name change serves to heighten emphasis on expanding outreach efforts and fostering participation from various regions of the African Diaspora, transcending beyond the Caribbean region.

This year, the forum will be geared towards spotlighting positive and concrete Pan-African endeavours and projects, as well as addressing specific obstacles or predicaments that necessitate direct participation from African and/or Diaspora governments and civil society organizations.

Journalists are invited to cover the 2023 Global Africa People to People Forum 2023 virtually on 21 July 2023, 10 AM - 2 PM (EST) | 2 PM - 6 PM (UTC/GMT) | 4 PM - 8 PM (CAT).
