The African Mineral and Energy Resources Classification and Management System (AMREC) document is a comprehensive framework designed to guide the sustainable management of Africa’s mineral and energy resources. Based on the principles of the United Nations Framework Classification for Resources (UNFC), it aligns with the Africa Mining Vision (AMV), Agenda 2063, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
AMREC supports regional and national resource management policies and aims to promote economic diversification, transparency, and environmentally responsible practices. The document outlines guidelines and classifications for resource management across multiple sectors, including mining, petroleum, and renewable energy, and integrates social, environmental, and economic considerations into the process.
AMREC also includes the Pan-African Resource Reporting Code (PARC) for public reporting, ensuring accountability, governance, and public disclosures related to resource projects.
