On the sidelines of the 2026 African Caucus Meeting in Banjul, H.E. Amb. Selma Malika Haddadi, Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission, was received in audience by H.E. Adama Barrow, President of the Republic of The Gambia, where they reaffirmed the longstanding partnership between the African Union and The Gambia.
H.E. the Deputy Chairperson conveyed the warm greetings of H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, and commended The Gambia for its steadfast commitment to the ideals and objectives of the African Union. She acknowledged the country’s constructive role and identification in AU consensus-building processes, including the Banjul Formula, and expressed appreciation to President Barrow and the people of The Gambia for hosting the 2026 African Caucus Meeting.
President Barrow warmly welcomed H.E. the Deputy Chairperson, congratulated her on her assumption of office, and reaffirmed The Gambia’s unwavering commitment to the African Union and its continental integration agenda.
H.E. the Deputy Chairperson also raised the issue of the permanent seat of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR). The discussions further focused on key African Union priorities, including regional integration, peace and security, and strategies to accelerate Africa’s economic growth and sustainable development.
