Africa Prepares for COP17
Malabo, June 30, 2011 - The Committee of Heads of State and Government of the
African Union on Climate Change (CAHOSCC) met 29 June 2011, at the Sipopo
Conference Center in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea. The meeting focused on African
participation in the Conference of Parties to the Framework Convention of the United
Nations on Climate Change (COP 17) to be held from November 28 to December 9, 2011
in Durban, South Africa. The meeting was chaired by Mr Meles Zenawi, Prime Minister of
the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and Coordinator of the CAHOSCC.
During the meeting, the African Union Commission reported on the progress of
implementation of previous decisions on climate change and highlighted the activities
undertaken to facilitate African participation in the COP17, the work of the Group of
African negotiators and update the common African position.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to update on the position of Africa in the
negotiations on climate change since COP 16 in Cancun, Mexico.
