COMMUNIQUE OF THE AD HOC COMMITTEE OF HEADS OF STATE AND GOVERNMENT OF THE AFRICAN UNION ON ELECTIONS OF
MEMBERS OF THE AFRICAN UNION COMMISSION

COTONOU, BENIN, 17 MARCH 2012

The Ad Hoc Committee of the Eight Heads of State and Government mandated by the 18th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union met on Saturday 17 March 2012, in Cotonou, Benin.
The Committee held fruitful discussions, which led to positive progress towards a consensus solution on the election of the Chairperson, Deputy Chairperson and the other Members of the African Union Commission.
Consultations are on going between the Members of the Committee, in particular, between the Republic of Gabon and the Republic of South Africa.
The outcome of the consultations will be submitted to the next meeting of the Committee that will enable it formulate recommendations aimed at facilitating the election of the Members of the Commission during the Summit in Lilongwe, Malawi, in July 2012.
