Addis Ababa, 07 October 2013: H.E. Dr. Aisha L. Abdullahi, Commissioner for Political Affairs of the African Union Commission today received in her office, H.E. Mr. Mohamed Edrees, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Ethiopia and the Permanent Representative to the AU.

The Ambassador of Egypt briefed Commissioner Abdullahi on the current situation in Egypt and indicated that the Interim Authority in Egypt will continue to cooperate with the African Union (AU) High-Level Panel for Egypt led by former President Alpha Oumar Konare of Mali.

The Commissioner indicated that despite the sanctions imposed by the African Union Peace and Security Council on Egypt, the African Union Commission will continue to follow closely the evolution of the political and security situation in order to restore constitutional order in Egypt.

She expressed her concerns over the rising violence, the loss of lives and destruction of properties in Egypt and called on all parties to be part of the process of implementing the roadmap for return to normalcy.

The Ambassador of Egypt welcomed the comments of the Commissioner and reiterated the commitment of the interim Authority to implement the roadmap and recommendations by the AU High-Level Panel for Egypt.
