Addis Ababa, Ethiopia - 23 February 2016 – A Qatari High Level Delegation led by H.E. Tarik Bin Ali Al-Ansari, Director of International Technical Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, paid yesterday an official visit to the Commissioner for Trade and Industry, H.E. Mrs. Fatima Haram Acyl. The objective of the visit was to explore possible avenues of strengthening ties between the State of Qatar and the African Union.
During the visit, members of the delegation informed the Commissioner that they are undertaking a business visit in Ethiopia to explore investment opportunities. They expressed their interest to work with the African Union in key areas such as Trade, Industrial Development, Climate change and Green Economy. Discussions were also held on the strengthening bilateral technical cooperation ties between the two sides in addition to seeking ways and means of enhancing partnership and prospects of mutual cooperation.
The Commissioner for Trade and Industry welcomed the delegation and appreciated the fact that the Department of Trade and Industry was put on the loop for the visit. “We need to attract investments on our Continent and your cooperation is key for us”, she said. She underlined the new development trajectory of the African Union under its Agenda 2063 which focuses on development plans that are people-centered, inclusive and sustainable. She highlighted the importance placed on Agenda 2063 flagship projects such as the Continental Free Trade Area (CFTA), the Accelerated Industrial Development of Africa (AIDA) and the Africa Mining Vision (AMV). The Qatari representatives emphasized their willingness to support the African Union, in diverse ways, in the implementation of its agenda through a mutually beneficial cooperation that takes into cognizance respect, dignity and equality of all partners. Commissioner Acyl also advised the delegation to hold talks with Economic Affairs Department as its works closely with the Private Sector on investment issues.
