African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights Begins 41st Ordinary Session on 16 May

Arusha, 11 May, 2016: The African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights (AfCHPR) will hold its 41st Ordinary Session from 16 May to 3 June 2016 at its seat in Arusha, the United Republic of Tanzania.

The Judges, among others, will examine over 50 applications and four requests for Advisory Opinions.

NOTES FOR EDITORS:

The Court is composed of eleven judges, nationals of Member States of the African Union elected in their individual capacity.
The Court meets four times a year in Ordinary Sessions and may meet in Extra-Ordinary Session.
Up to 29 April, 2016, the Court had received 90 applications of which 23 have been finalized. Four applications have been transferred to the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights.
