H.E. Moussa Faki Mahamat bids farewell to H.E. Giuseppe Mistretta, Ambassador of Italy.

H.E. Giuseppe Mistretta, Ambassador of Italy paid a farewell courtesy call to HE Moussa Faki Mahamat, Chairperson of the African Union Commission after a 4yr tour of duty.

H.E. Giuseppe Mistretta :

Sad to leave Ethiopioa and the African Union where cooperation was mainly with Dept of Peace and Secrurity and Political Affairs
Hopes to enlarge scope of cooperation with other sectors in AUC when takes up new appointment as Director for Africa in Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Italy to host a conference on urbanisation in Nov 2017 where Commisioner of Infrastructre will be invitied. Urbanisation is important driver of migration.

HE Moussa Faki Mahamat:

Congratulated HE Mistretta for new appointment, an encouragement to know that someone who understand the priorities and challenges for Africa.

Look forward to enhancing relationship with Italy, which has special place of importance for Africa, not only because of its geographical location in relation to the continent but also because of its special sensitivity to Africa, including that it shares many of the migration challenges.

Looking forward to upcominig AU EU summit to be held in Abidjan, where issues of common interest and concern such as Youth Employment, inveting in the Youth, Energy, Infrastructure, Gender and peace and security will be discussed as part of the AU EU partnership

AUC Reforms is an important tool in resetting partnerships and ensuring financial autonomy of the Union by the Union .

Need for different approaches to fight terrorism which is a common and global threat. Africa has come up with G5 Sahel initiative with countries contributing troops and equipment to address new drivers of conflict and terror in the Sahel and beyond.
