Addis Ababa, 4 November 2017: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, paid an official visit to the Kingdom of Morocco from 3 to 4 November 2017. This was the first visit of the Chairperson of the Commission to Morocco since its widely welcomed return to the African Union.

The Chairperson of the Commission was received at the Rabat Royal Palace by His Majesty King Mohamed VI with whom he had in-depth discussions on a number of key issues of strategic importance that are currently occupying the African Union’s attention.

In this context, the discussions focused on the institutional reform of the African Union, the promotion of peace and security, efforts to advance governance and democracy, economic integration, environment, migration, the promotion of youth and women, as well as on the strategic partnerships.

The exchanges were marked by a spirit of frankness and openness, and there was a convergence of views on all the issues discussed.

The Chairperson of the Commission warmly thanked His Majesty King Mohamed VI, the Government and the people of Morocco for the warm welcome and hospitality extended to him and his delegation throughout the visit.
