Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 10 April 2018: The African Union Commission has made its foray into the cyber world by officially unveiling its online Knowledge Management (KM) platform of the African Internet Governance Forum (AfIGF).

The Knowledge Management platform has been set up in response to the overwhelming request of the African Internet stakeholders especially during the 6th African and the Global Internet Governance Forums (IGF) held in December 2017 in Egypt and Switzerland respectively.

“The platform is connected to the resources of the African IGF website (https://www.afigf.africa),” explains Moctar Yedaly, Head of Information Society in the Department of Infrastructure and Energy of the African Union Commission.

“It will also serve as a space for regular exchange of views and information as well as for better planning and implementation of African related ICT and Internet Governance programmes of the African Union Commission, the Regional Economic Communities and member States for policy preparation process on Internet matters,” Mr. Yedaly added.

Through the Knowledge Management platform, which is active with multiple Communities and Forums, stakeholders would help address the ICT challenges in general and the Internet policy issues in particular. This, ideally, should help establish common African positions on various issues.

Interested parties can go to https://knowledge.afigf.africa/ to start collaborating, sharing and attributing.

Note for the Editors

Internet Governance is seen as the evolving policies and mechanisms under which the Internet community's main stakeholders (Government, business, civil society, Academia) make recommendations about the development and use of the Internet. It embraces the key objectives of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) (Geneva 2003, Tunis 2005).

African stakeholders wishing to register would send a request via email to yedalym@africa-union.org and Suliemana@africa-union.org
