Communiqué on the participation of the Chairperson of the Commission in the FOCAC Summit
Addis Ababa, 2 September 2018: The Chairperson of the Commission of the African Union, Moussa Faki Mahamat, arrived yesterday in Beijing to participate in the Forum for China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) that will take place from 2 to 4 September 2018.
Chairperson Faki will address the FOCAC Summit during the opening ceremony scheduled on 3 September and participate in the deliberations of the meeting. Other planned activities include the formal launch of the African Union representational office in Beijing, as well as the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding to reinforce synergies between Agenda 2063 and the Belt and Road Initiative.
During his stay, Chairperson Faki will also meet with Chinese authorities to discuss how best to advance the partnership between the African Union and the People’s Republic of China, in the context of the outcomes of the FOCAC Summit and as a follow-up to the visit he undertook to Beijing last February.
