Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – 20 February 2019: The new Namibian Permanent Representative to the African Union, Amb. Emilia Ndinealo Mkusa, presented today her Credentials to the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat.

Following the presentation, the AU Commission Chairperson and the newly appointed Permanent Representative exchanged views on the importance of implementing Agenda 2063, the reforms of the Union and other policies to advance development on the continent.

Amb. Mkusa, who assumed office three months ago, congratulated the Chairperson on the successful recently concluded AU Summit, which took significant decisions on peace and security and the Institutional Reforms. She stressed her personal commitment and that of the Republic of Namibia, as the Chair of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), to fast-track the implementation of Agenda 2063 and other AU priorities.

The Chairperson, on his part, expressed appreciation to the Government of Namibia for facilitating his two official visits to the country. He also congratulated the Government for appointing another female ambassador to the AU, which reflect its consistent policy towards gender equality and women’s empowerment. The Chairperson emphasized Namibia’s role as the Chair of SADC as the AU prepares for the first Coordination Summit with the Regional Economic Communities (RECs) in July 2019.

Finally, the Chairperson reassured the newly appointed Representative that the Commission and his team are ready to assist during her tenure and to fulfil the collective mission for the continent.
