Statement of the Chairperson of the Commission on the passing of Former President France Albert René of Seychelles
Addis Ababa, 28 February 2019: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, has learnt with sadness the passing away of former President France Albert René of Seychelles.
The Chairperson of the Commission pays tribute to the former President for his longstanding commitment to the liberation of his country and the well-being of its people. He was at the forefront in the struggle for independence and contributed immensely to the socio-economic transformation of the Seychelles. He leaves an indelible mark on the history of his country.
On behalf of the African Union Commission, the Chairperson conveys his deepest condolences to the family of the deceased, as well as to the Government and people of the Republic of Seychelles.
