STATEMENT ATTRIBUTED TO THE SPOKESPERSON OF THE CHAIRPERSON OF THE AUC

1 June 2019, Addis Abeba: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission Moussa Faki Mahamat wishes to thank Mr Wane El Ghassim, former Chief of Staff and Chief Advisor, for his long and loyal service to the AUC and the Continent.

Mr Wane El Ghassim resigned from his role as Chief of Staff and Chief Advisor to the Chairperson of the African Union Commission after having served the Commission selflessly with a total commitment to the continental agenda during a long and illustrious career that spanned over thirty years. Mr El Ghassim also served as United Nations Assistant-General for Peacekeeping Operations from 2015 to 2017.

The African Union Commission thanks Mr Wane for his exceptional leadership and service to the Continent and wishes him well in his future endeavours
