06 September 2019, Addis Abeba: It is with immense sadness that the Chairperson of the African Union Commission Moussa Faki Mahamat learnt of the passing of Zimbabwe's former president Robert Mugabe.

On behalf of the entire African Union family, the Chairperson wishes to express his sincere condolences to the late former president Mugabe's family and the Zimbabwean people.

The African Union is united in grief as we mourn an iconic liberation fighter and emblematic Pan-Africanist in the struggle for liberation and continental integration.

May his soul rest in eternal peace.
