The Department of Political Affairs of the African Union Commission (AUC/DPA) is organizing a webinar on “Examining the Role of the AU Human Rights Organs in Supporting the Member States during and after the COVID-19 Pandemic”, scheduled to be held on 30th June 2020, 04:30-05:50PM EAST AFRICAN TIME. The event will be organized in collaboration with the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).

The objectives of the webinar includes but not limited to provoke a reflection on the role of the AU Organs in supporting AU Member States to realize their human rights obligations during the pandemic crisis, to Identify lessons learned and best practices in prevention and response to COVID-19 and to inform a more enhanced and comprehensive response during present and future health emergencies.

Furthermore, It is envisaged that the webinar will create a platform for participants to reflect on new innovative strategies and recommendations to inform future engagement with AU Member States to advance human rights promotion and protection and to attain a more equitable and sustainable development, just and peaceful societies.

The Webinar will bring together AU human Rights organs in one side as well as the representatives of the National Human Rights Institutions and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) on the other to exchange ideas and explore ways of establishing and strengthening human rights mainstreaming in prevention and response systems.
