19 April 2021, Addis Ababa: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission H.E. Moussa Faki Mahamat, accompanied by the Commissioner of Political Affairs, Peace & Security H.E. Amb Bankole Adeoye and Social Affairs Commissioner H.E. Amira El-Fadil, concluded a two-day working visit to Libya today.

During the visit, the Chairperson and his delegation held extensive discussions with Dr Mohamed El-Menfi, Chairman of the Presidency Council of Libya and Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, Prime Minister of the government of national unity.

During both meetings, the leaders agreed on the role of the African Union in supporting Libya to organize and conduct an inter-Libyan national reconciliation conference.

They agreed upon the crucial support of the AU to the planned elections in December 2021 as a main step in the restoration of peace, stability, democracy and development in the country.

They also agreed to reactivate the process of dignified and voluntary repatriation and resettlement of African migrants, in collaboration with international partners.

The Chairperson reiterated the continued commitment of the African Union to support and accompany the brotherly nation of Libya in its road towards durable peace, reconciliation and reconstruction.
