Addis Ababa, 3 January 2022: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, is deeply concerned by the latest developments in the political situation in Sudan, particularly the resignation of Prime Minister Dr Abdalla Hamdok, and the ongoing protests and violence in the country.

The Chairperson called on all national civilian and military actors to intensify their efforts to find a path towards consensual approaches and a peaceful resolution to the crisis, in conformity with the transitional political agreements.

The Chairperson reaffirmed the continued determination of the African Union to support Sudan in its quest for peace in order to preserve safety of the country, and avoid further violence, political vacuum and destructive chaos
