Addis Ababa, 11 January 2022: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, strongly condemns the killing of scores of innocent people and injuries of several others in recent attacks by armed bandits in Anka and Bukkuyum Local Government Areas of Zamfara State, Nigeria. He commiserates with the families of the deceased and the Government of Nigeria, and prays for the speedy recovery of the wounded.

The Chairperson commends the resolute determination and rapid response of the Federal Government of Nigeria through the deployment of strategic military assets that destroyed the hideouts of the bandits. He urges citizens to support the government’s efforts in the prevention of future attacks.

The Chairperson expresses the unequivocal solidarity and continuous commitment of the AU to support the Government of Nigeria in her efforts to guarantee the safety of lives and property, and to eliminate all forms of banditry and terrorism in the country.
