12 October 2023, Addis Ababa: It has come to the attention of the Bureau of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission that several foreign capitals fell victim to fake email address purporting to be official emails from the Deputy Chief of Staff on behalf of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, requesting phone calls with foreign leaders.

The African Union Commission regrets these incidents and wishes to reiterate that all official AU Commission email addresses start with Name@africa-union.org. Any other email is not a legitimate AU email address.

The African Union also wishes to recall that all requests for high-level engagement by the Chairperson of the AU Commission is systematically through normal diplomatic channels, via Note Verbale addressed to the concerned accredited embassies based in Addis Ababa, for the attention of the concerned foreign capital.
