The Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, received the credentials of H.E. Ambassador Peter Hunter, the newly appointed Permanent Representative of Australia to the African Union.

The Chairperson commended Australia's ongoing engagement in supporting Africa’s development priorities, including its contributions to peacekeeping missions, food security initiatives, and educational programs through scholarships and short courses.

Ambassador Hunter conveyed Australia’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with the African Union and regional organisations, highlighting the shared interests in promoting peace, prosperity, and sustainable development across the continent.

The Chairperson and the Ambassador exchanged views on ways to deepen collaboration in areas of mutual concern, in line with the AU’s Agenda 2063.
