H.E. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, President of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, this evening received H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, on the sidelines of the Oran Process in Algiers.

President Tebboune congratulated the Chairperson on his election and reaffirmed Algeria’s full support for his mandate. They held a productive exchange on peace and security, diplomacy, and development across the continent.

The Chairperson expressed gratitude for President Tebboune’s leadership and Algeria’s vital role in regional peace and global diplomacy including at the UN Security Council, encouraging Algeria’s continued engagement in helping resolve conflicts in the region.

President Tebboune expressed concerns about ongoing conflicts and unconstitutional changes of government in Africa and reiterated Algeria’s commitment to work closely with the African Union, under its leadership and agency, to advance lasting solutions.

Earlier in the day, the Chairperson also held a cordial meeting with H.E. Ahmed Attaf, Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad of Algeria, during which they reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening cooperation between Algeria and the African Union.
