S.E. Amira El Fadil

H.E. Amira El Fadil, born on 15 January 1967, a Sudanese woman was elected Commissioner for Social Affairs of the African Union Commission. She was Minister of Social Welfare and Social Insurance for the Government of Sudan.


The Department of Social Affairs (DSA) works to promote the AU’s health, labour, employment, migration, social development, drug control, crime prevention, sport and cultural agenda.

The Division of culture harmonises and coordinates activities and policies across the continent.

The Division responds to vital generic health issues related to health policy and delivery systems, nutrition and other related public health issues and challenges that require a concerted and coordinated approach at a continental level.

The Division plays a leading role in policy development, advocacy, coordination, monitoring and evaluation on AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria and other infectious diseases.

The division of labour and employment focuses on the rights, labour standards, integrated employment policies and social security systems.
