Although heavily focused on DDR interventions running alongside Peace Support Operations the document provides comprehensive (if now somewhat dated) practical guidance for DDR policy makers and practitioners covering all aspects of DDR programming. Explores linkages with SSR, national ownership, interrelationship between reintegration and work with IDP's and other conflict affected groups. Includes useful discussion on types of programming that may be considered depending on political and security contexts faced.

This study aims to understand male ex-combatants practices and attitudes as they relate to gender equality, and the impact on men of participation in collective violence and armed groups, with a specific focus on the effects of demobilization and reintegration programming on gender dynamics and male identity construction. Contains important findings on mental and psychological stress levels amongst male combatants and the need for the provision of support as they seek new identities as ex-combatants.

This document is a synthesis of Lessons Learned following program interventions with child soldiers in Côte d'Ivoire, Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone and contains recommendations on how to avoid re-recruitment, ensure personnel is better able to respond to children's needs and how their reintegration needs may be more effectively addressed.
