THURSDAY 26TH OCTOBER 2017
ADDIS ABABA, ETHIOPIA

Your Excellency, Ambassador Thomas Kwesi Quartey, AUC Deputy Chairperson,
Distinguished Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen.

It gives me great honour and priviledge to welcome you all to the inauguration of the Smart Health Monitoring Center. Health monitoring system has rapidly evolved during the past two decades and it has changed the way health care is currently delivered. The system automates patient monitoring tasks and, thereby improve the patient workflow management. Smart Health enables us to look at smart ways to address health issues.
Distinguished Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen:
The Medical and Health Services Directorate (MHSD) aims to make healthcare more Proactive, Integrated, Personalized, and Empowered for both our clients and Medical staff through the launching of a Smart Health Monitoring project. The Smart Health project will no doubt contribute to improved healthcare delivery system at the African Union and thus, attainment of the Agenda 2063.
In line with the Smart Health System, some ongoing efforts at the MHSD include the Integrated Electronic Medical Record System, fully automated Radiology unit, various auto-analyzers in our Laboratory, a modern Dental suite and a first class Ear/Nose/Throat facility. Other projects include Telemedicine and capacity building for medical staff at various centers of Excellence across the globe. All aforementioned projects are crosscutting efforts to bring smartness to everyday activity at the MHSD. More of such smartness like state of the art Ambulance will soon be introduced so that care can go beyond hospitals or clinics and into the comfort of wherever our staff find themselves.
Excellences, Ladies and Gentlemen
The MHSD has been embarking on many commendable and impactful projects. Last year, we inaugurated the State of Kuwait sponsored special project to enhance African Union Medical Delivery System, where our facility was provided with various modern equipment. I am glad that this year too we are having a highly innovative project to inaugurate.

Permit me to thank the Chinese telecommunication giant – ZTE led by the CEO for this kind gesture. You have exemplified the spirit of innovation. You have brought bright ideas and technology together. You have made healthcare delivery easier and better for us. We look forward to reap the benefits in terms of efficiency, client satisfaction and better patient outcomes.

Distinguished Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen:
It is my hope that the Smart Health Monitoring Center will lead us Towards Better Health, Better Care, and Better Lives for our clients.
Thank you all for joining us today for this important event.
