Update On African Union Actions in Response to Recent Ebola Outbreaks
Following the recent outbreak of Ebola cases reported in Uganda, The African Union (AU) is collaborating with the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uganda to mobilise support to ensure adequate response and implementation of prevention and control measures, including deployment of senior experts from the AU’s Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC).

he African Union, in collaboration with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and other partners, is commemorating the annual World/Africa Refugee Day next week. This year, the AU is also marking the 50th anniversary of the 1969 OAU Refugee Convention and the 10th anniversary of the 2009 AU Convention on the Protection and Assistance for Internally Displaced Persons in Africa.
Innovation key to Africa’s Energy Future
The first Ministerial Summit on Africa’s energy future jointly organized by the African Union Commission (AUC) and the International Energy Agency (IEA) was held today with a rallying call to embrace and invest more in technological innovation in the Energy sector to develop Africa’s energy future.

The African Union has embarked on communication, visibility and branding activities that have expanded and strengthened its outreach. Through the AU Commission’s Directorate of Information and Communication, the Union has enhanced its internal and external communications functions, to increase efficiency and connectivity with African citizenry and stakeholders, in making available up-to-date information on the implementation and impact of Agenda 2063 projects, programmes and activities.

Ministers of trade deliberate on the operationalization of AfCFTA ahead of Niamey Summit.
Africa has made commendable progress in securing deposits of instruments of ratification on the Agreement Establishing the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). The agreement officially entered into force on the 30th of March 2019 with twenty four (24) instruments of ratification deposited with the African Union Commission. The African Union is setting the pace for the launch of the operational phase of the operational phase of the continental market in July this year. To build on this momentum and deepen the continental economic integration, the African Union Ministers of Trade (AMOT) held a two-day meeting in preparation for the upcoming Extraordinary Summit on AfCFTA in Niamey, Niger.
