Outbreak Update: Since the last brief (20 October 2020), 3,025,116 new confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases and 40,780 new deaths have been reported globally. To date, a total of 42,977,875 COVID-19 cases and 1,152,8883 related deaths (case fatality rate (CFR): 2.7%) have been reported from 219 countries and territories. This week, no new country or territory reported its first case.

Addis Ababa, 27 October 2020: As the United Republic of Tanzania gears up to hold General Elections tomorrow, 28 October 2020, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission Moussa Faki Mahamat, calls for peaceful, inclusive and credible polls.
The Chairperson calls on all stakeholders, political parties and their supporters to participate in the voting process peacefully and to refrain from any acts of violence. He further urges the authorities to ensure a conducive environment to enable citizens to cast their votes in a safe and peaceful manner.

Addis Abeba, 23 October 2020, The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat welcomes the signing of a ceasefire between the parties in Libya following negotiations within the framework of the 5+5 Joint Military Commission in Geneva, Switzerland.
