As part of its mandated and to ensure the continuity of service, the Office of the Legal Counsel has been organizing signing ceremonies and deposit of instruments of ratification from African Union Member States. However, OLC ensures that security measures to fight against the Covid19 are strictly followed.

In that regards, OLC has received the instruments of ratification of the Treaty for the establishment of the African Medicines Agency (AMA Treaty) from Burkina Faso and the Republic of Mali.

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia: 03 July 2020: A delegation of officials of the African Union Commission (AUC) led by the Deputy Chairperson, H.E. Mr Kwesi Quartey called on the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, H.E. Gedu Andargachew on Tuesday, July 7, 2020. The purpose of the meeting was to ascertain specific ways the Africa Union would support the host nation in navigating the current challenges it faces and also requested for the restoration of internet services to facilitate business continuity.

The Department of Political Affairs of the African Union Commission (AUC/DPA) is organizing a webinar on “Examining the Role of the AU Human Rights Organs in Supporting the Member States during and after the COVID-19 Pandemic”, scheduled to be held on 30th June 2020, 04:30-05:50PM EAST AFRICAN TIME. The event will be organized in collaboration with the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).

25/06/2020 – Tax Transparency in Africa 2020, launched today as part of the Africa Initiative, depicts the state of play for 32 African Union Member States, members of the Initiative and three non-members. It shows the progress achieved on the two cornerstones of the Initiative: (i) raising political awareness and commitment, and (ii) developing capacities in tax transparency and exchange of information (EOI). Tax transparency and EOI have a crucial role to play in helping African governments stem illicit financial flows (IFFs) and increase domestic revenue mobilisation.
