UK Foreign Minister for Africa calls on the Deputy Chairperson of the AUC

Addis Ababa - Ethiopia. July 27, 2020. The Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mr. Kwesi Quartey, received the United Kingdom Minister for Africa, H.E. Mr. James Duddridge (MP) at the AUC on a familiarization tour and to introduce himself to the leadership of the Commission. 
 
After exchanging pleasantries, H.E the Deputy Chairperson expressed gratitude to the Government of UK for committing to donate $20 Million towards the AU COVID-19 Rapid Response Fund and UK’s continuous collaboration with the African Union.

The nexus between migration and health is conspicuously apparent at this time of corona virus which permeates all spheres of life. The situation of migrants and refugees in Africa is exacerbated by the pervasive spectre of conflicts, climate change and impact of irregular migration. This, compounded by recent outbreaks of illnesses declared, the public health emergencies of global concern and pandemics such as COVID-19, presents Africa with a huge fast-paced challenge requiring dynamism all response approaches shaped by African Union Member States.

His Excellency President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa, President of the Republic of South Africa, in his capacity as the Chairperson of the African Union (AU), convened an Extraordinary Meeting of the African Union (AU) Bureau of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government, on 21 July 2020, to review progress pertaining to the Trilateral Negotiations on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD). This was a follow-up to the 1st Extraordinary Meeting of the AU Bureau on the GERD held on 26 June 2020.

Signing Ceremonies and Deposit of Instruments of Ratification during COVID-19 Pandemic

As part of its mandated and to ensure the continuity of service, the Office of the Legal Counsel has been organizing signing ceremonies and deposit of instruments of ratification from African Union Member States. However, OLC ensures that security measures to fight against the Covid19 are strictly followed.

In that regards, OLC has received the instruments of ratification of the Treaty for the establishment of the African Medicines Agency (AMA Treaty) from Burkina Faso and the Republic of Mali.
