Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 19 August 2016: On Friday 19th August 2016 the AUC Department of Economic Affairs and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) through the collaborative initiative of the AUC department of Political Affairs held a session of Fridays of the Commission dedicated to current economic, financial, agricultural and humanitarian challenges facing African economies.

Washington DC, USA; August 4, 2016 -- The Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI), an initiative launched by H.E. Barack Obama, President of the United States of America aims to support young African leaders as they pursue growth and prosperity, strengthen democratic governance and enhance peace and security in Africa.

International remittances has become a major source of foreign currencies for most of African countries and have been found to be more stable and dependable than other forms of foreign currency inflows such as Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and Overseas Development Aid (ODA). In 2015, African economies received - both from overseas and Intra-African corridors – officially recorded remittances amounting to US$ 66 billion.

The African Institute for Remittances (AIR) on 12 August 2016 concluded in Harare, Zimbabwe, a three-day Consultative and Stock-Taking workshop with African Central Banks, partners and other stakeholders on Remittances in the African Union Member States.
