The Head of AUEOM to Zambia’s 2021 General elections, H.E. Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma meeting with the flag bearer and other members of the Socialist party in Zambia as part of his engagement with key stakeholders. The purpose of the meeting was to understand the state of preparedness of political stakeholders for elections.

Meeting of the Head of the AU election observation mission to Zambia, H.E. Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma with the Chairperson and members of the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ).The meeting was to announce the presence of the AUEOM in the country, provide information about the Mission’s composition and activities, and gain an understanding of the state of the ECZ’s preparation for the elections as overall political context.

The African Union Commission’s Women, Gender and Youth Directorate in partnership with UNICEF, UNFPA, and UN Women hosted a Virtual Couch Talk to commemorate Pan African Women’s Day on 30^th July 2021 themed “Building the Africa We Want: The Role of Youth in Fostering Gender Equality”.

ADDIS ABABA, 8 August 2021: Following an invitation of the Government of the Republic of Zambia, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, His Excellency Moussa Faki Mahamat approved the deployment of a thirty-member African Union Short-Term Election Observation Mission (AUEOM) to Zambia’s 12 August 2021 Presidential, Parliamentary and Local Council Elections led by His Excellency Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, former President of Sierra Leone.

The Head of Mission is supported by the AU Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security, Amb. Bankole Adeoye. The AU election observation mission to Zambia comprises 30 short term observers (STOs).
