WHAT:        The Pan-African Parliament (PAP), the legislative arm of the African Union (AU), will convene an Extraordinary Session of its Seventh Legislature to elect the five members of its Bureau: One (1) President and Four (4) Vice-Presidents.

WHEN:        28 – 30 April 2026, starting daily at 9am (SAST). The election of the Bureau of the will take place on 30 April 2026.

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, welcomes the progress in efforts, on Saturday, 18 April 2026, to facilitate humanitarian access and secure the release of prisoners, reached between the Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the AFC/M23 Movement, following talks held in Montreux, Switzerland, under the Doha Peace Process.

Badr Al Busaidi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman, expressing gratitude to the Chairperson for his principled stance & continued solidarity in advocating for an end to the war in the Middle East through dialogue, diplomacy, & peaceful means.

Distinguished Ministers, Governors, and Partners,

 

On behalf of the AUC, I thank the World Bank Group, under the leadership of President Ajay Banga, for this timely report, at a time of high pressure on our continent and the world, and for bringing the critical issue of creating an enabling environment for more and better-paid jobs to the center of this Committee’s discussions.

For Africa, this is not an abstract policy question. It is an urgent development, economic, and stability imperative.

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, this morning received H.E. Amb. Albert Shingiro, his Special Envoy to the Republic of Gabon and the Republic of Equatorial Guinea.

The Chairperson congratulated the Envoy on his appointment and conveyed his full confidence in his mandate to support the peaceful and effective implementation of the judgment rendered by the International Court of Justice on 19 May 2025, in a manner that promotes dialogue, mutual trust, and sustainable good-neighbourly relations.
