Addis Ababa, 8 April 2018: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, welcomes the successful conduct of the presidential run-off election held in Sierra Leone on 31 March 2018. He congratulates the people of Sierra Leone on this achievement and commends the National Electoral Commission, as well as the political leaders, for their demonstrated spirit of responsibility, which ensured the peaceful and smooth conclusion of the electoral process.

Addis Ababa, 7 April 2018: At the invitation of His Majesty King Mswati III, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, undertook an official visit to the Kingdom of Swaziland from 4 to 6 April 2018.

During the visit, the Chairperson had discussions with His Majesty King Mswati III on key African Union priorities and other issues of common interest.

He also met with Prime Minister Dr. Barnabas Sibusiso Dlamini, as well as with Honorable Phiwayinkosi Mabuza, MP, Minister of Housing and Urban Development, in his capacity as acting Foreign Minister.

His visit follows the communique that he issued on 2 April following the announcement of the untimely passing away of Mama Nomzano Winnie Madikizela Mandela, one of Africa’s fallen heroes.

Addis Ababa, April 5th , 2018: The AU-EU-UN Task Force on the Stranded Migrants situation in Libya held the Eighth meeting of the Task Force on 29 March 2018 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The meeting was chaired by H.E. Madam Amira Elfadil, the Special Envoy of the Chairperson and Commissioner for Social Affairs and attended by the Head of the Anti-Illegal Immigration Authority of Libya. The meeting was also attended by the EU Deputy Head of Mission to the AU and the directors from the IOM and UNHCR.
