H.E President William Samoei Ruto (PhD), President of the Republic of Kenya and the African Union Champion on Institutional Reform. H.E. Ruto was appointed during the 37th Assembly of Heads of State and Government in February 2024 to champion the AU Institutional Reform process taking over from the H.E Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda who led the implementation of the reform process since 2016.

Arusha, 2 June 2025: The African Court on Human & Peoples’ Rights (the Court/AfCHPR) has elected Honourable Justice Modibo Sacko of Mali as its President, and Honourable Lady Justice Bensaoula Chafika of Algeria as the Vice President.
The election took place today during the first day of the Court’s 77th Ordinary Session, being held at its seat in Arusha, United Republic of Tanzania.

It is fitting that today's celebration took place within the walls of a venue that bears the name of one of Africa’s most visionary sons and leaders—who once reminded us that “freedom is meaningless if people cannot put food in their stomachs, if they cannot have shelter, if illiteracy and disease continue to dog them.” These words by Nelson Mandela remain as relevant today as ever, serving as a powerful reminder that the aspirations of our 1.5 billion people must be matched by tangible progress in their daily lives.
This morning, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, received Mr. Bill Gates, Chair of the Gates Foundation.
The visit aimed to strengthen collaboration between the AU and the Gates Foundation. Discussions centered on boosting Africa’s health systems, expanding local vaccine and medicine manufacturing, and enhancing food security.
This initiative forms part of the preparatory roadmap for the Luanda Infrastructure Financing Summit, co-hosted by the Government of Angola, AUDA-NEPAD and the African Union Commission . The summit, scheduled for October 2025,
