It is the strategic framework for delivering on Africa’s goal for inclusive and sustainable development and is a concrete manifestation of the pan-African drive for unity, self-determination, freedom, progress and collective prosperity pursued under Pan-Africanism and African Renaissance.
H.E President William Samoei Ruto (PhD), President of the Republic of Kenya and the African Union Champion on Institutional Reform. H.E. Ruto was appointed during the 37th Assembly of Heads of State and Government in February 2024 to champion the AU Institutional Reform process taking over from the H.E Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda who led the implementation of the reform process since 2016.

Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, expresses deep concern over the rapidly deteriorating security situation in Mali, where terrorist groups have imposed blockades, disrupted access to essential supplies, and severely worsened humanitarian conditions for civilian populations.
1. The African Union Commission (AUC) warmly expresses its support for the Republic of South Africa as G20 Chair and welcomes the country for hosting the G20 Summit in Africa for the first time. This milestone reflects South Africa’s growing role in global governance.
2. As the current Chair of the G20, South Africa has shown exceptional leadership in promoting the priorities of the Global South, advancing sustainable development, and strengthening inclusive global governance.
At this afternoon’s #COP30 Leaders Event in Belém, Roundtable on The Implementation of Adaptation Goals, AUC Chairperson H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf called for urgent climate justice, noting that though Africa contributes less than 4% of global emissions, it bears the brunt of the crisis.

The African Union Commission (AUC) reiterates its unwavering commitment to the principles of sovereignty, non-interference, religious freedom, and the rule of law, as enshrined in the African Union Constitutive Act and related instruments.
The Commission notes with concern recent statements by the United States of America alleging that the Government of Nigeria is complicit in the targeted killing of Christians and threatening military action. The AUC emphasizes the following:

He underscored “the inseparable link between climate balance, forests, & oceans,” noting that Africa, which holds 17% of the world’s forests & vast marine ecosystems, “is central to global climate action, yet receives less than 5% of adaptation finance.”
At Belém, Brazil, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, addressed the leaders summit, & underscored that Africa arrives at #COP30 “with conviction,” affirming that “the continent is an agent of transformation.” He noted that “from solar fields to green innovators by the youth across our continent, Africa is leading the way towards a just, inclusive, low-carbon future.”
