Member States Experts meeting on the operationalisation of the African Humanitarian Agency opens

Johannesburg, April 15, 2019: A Three-day Member States Experts meeting on the operationalization of an African Humanitarian Agency (AfHA) commenced in Johannesburg, South Africa, to review both the work of the Independent Experts and the study conducted by a consultant hired by the Department of Political Affairs.

The proposed AfHA was endorsed by the Assembly of African Union which also adopted the Common African Position in January 2016 which is aimed at achieving effective humanitarian action by 2025.

Steering Committee set the stage for the second phase of PIDA

Cairo, Egypt, 13 April 2019: The Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA) Steering Committee today concluded its two-day deliberations in Cairo and set the stage for the next phase of PIDA, which will officially launch in January 2021.

The Steering Committee, as part of its bi-annual meeting, learnt from the diverse experience of experts who had formative involvement in the development of the first phase of PIDA to inform the next phase.
