Kigali, Rwanda, 20 March 2018: Prof. Sarah Anyang Agbor, Commissioner for Human Resources, Science and Technology of the African Union, on 19 March 2018, delivered a key note address at the Gender Summit holding with the framework of the Tenth Extraordinary Summit of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA in Kigali, Republic of Rwanda).

The two day event which took place in the Marriott Hotel, Kigali brought together participants and delegates from the AU Member states to exchange views on the theme: “Climate Change through the Gender Lens: Focus on Africa”.

This is a historic day.
After Addis Ababa in May 1963, Abuja in June 1991 and Durban in July 2002, Kigali, in this month of March, marks a new step in our march towards greater integration and closer unity.

Opening Address by President Paul Kagame at the 10th Extraordinary Summit of the African Union on AfCFTA

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to Kigali for the Tenth Extra-Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union.

May I also extend a special welcome to our brother, His Excellency Cyril Ramaphosa, attending his first Summit as President of the Republic of South Africa.

I thank the leaders of fellow Member States for once again according Rwanda the honour to serve as your host.

I also thank the Chairperson, Moussa Faki Mahamat, and the entire staff of the African Union Commission, for preparing this Summit with diligence and commitment.

AfroChampions Initiative will work side by side with the African Union to promote the African Continental Free Trade Area; AfroChampions Initiative commits USD 1 million on awareness-raising actions

Kigali, March 20th, 2018 - On the occasion of the AfCFTA Business Forum, the African Union and the AfroChampions Initiative have just released their roadmap for the promotion of the African Continental Free Trade Area. The AfroChampions Initiative thus becomes an official platform of exchange between the African private sector and the leaders of the African Union, and in particular its department in charge of Trade and Industry.
