Addis Ababa, Ethiopia 20-21 January 2017: The African Union Commission, Office of the Legal Counsel convened a two (2) day meeting to enable experts to validate annexes to the Lomé Charter. The workshop aimed at gathering a wide range of experts and stakeholders from all sectors and to deliberate on a wide range of maritime economy issues from all regions and sectorsincluding practitioners, academia, private sector and key stakeholders.

Arusha, 3 February, 2017: At the just-ended 28th Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 30-31 January 2017, appointed two Judges to the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights for a period of six years.

The Judges are Hon. Justice Bensaoula Chafika from Algeria and Hon. Justice Chizumila Rose Tujilane from Malawi. The two are replacing Hon. Justice Fatsah Ouguergouz (Algeria) and Hon. Justice Duncan Tambala (Malawi) whose term came to an end on 5 September, 2016.

 
 
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – 1 February 2017: A day following the conclusion of the 28th Ordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government, during which new leadership was elected, mid-March 2017 has been agreed upon as the date for the effective handing-over ceremony from the outgoing to the incoming Chairperson, Deputy Chairperson and Commissioners of the African Union Commission (AUC).
 

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia 31st January 2017: The 28th Ordinary Summit of the African Union concluded on 31st January at the African Union Headquarters. It was officially closed after the swearing in of the new Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), H.E. Mr. Moussa Faki Mahamat, the Deputy Chairperson, H.E. Mr. Thomas Kwesi Quartey and Commissioners.
