Washington D.C, USA26 September 2016 - The African Union Commission delegation to the 15th AGOA Forum held on 26th September 2016 at the US State Department in Washington D.C. was led by H.E. Mr. Erastus Mwencha, Deputy Chairperson, assisted by H.E. Mrs. Fatima Haram Acyl, Commissioner for Trade and Industry, the AU Mission in Washington and the AUC Department of Trade and Industry.

AU welcomes the release of 21 Chibok girls

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – 14 October 2016: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma has received with great joy the news of the release of 21 Chibok girls in Nigeria. Over 200 girls were abducted from a boarding school in Chibok, Nigeria in April 2014, by the militant Islamic Group, Boko Haram.

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – 13 October 2016: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma has learned with deep sadness the passing of Ambassador Girma Asmerom Tesfay, who served as Eritrea’s Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union (AU) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), from January 2011 to February 2014. The death of Ambassador Girma Asmerom Tesfay occurred on 4 October, 2016 

African Leaders adopt Charter on Maritime Security, Safety and Development

Lomé, Togo, 15 October 2016: African Heads of State and Government have adopted and signed the African Charter on Maritime Security, Safety and Development on Saturday, 15 October 2016 at the Extraordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government.  The adoption of the Charter followed recommendations for its adoption made by the Permanent Representatives Committee (PRC) and the Executive Council Sessions, which were held from 11-14 October 2016.
