AU Chairperson’s Courtesy Call on President Uhuru Kenyatta

Addis Ababa, 24 April 2013 - The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma is undertaking a working visit to Kenya during which she will meet and engage with President Uhuru Kenyatta, Kenya’s 4th President.

After her brief meeting during his inauguration, Dr. Dlamini Zuma agreed to discuss critical issues ofcooperation between Kenya and the African Union, these include developments in the East African sub-region and Africa as a whole. Kenya is an important player in the socio-economic development, as well as peace and stability in the sub-region, and has active membership in the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) and the East Africa Community (EAC), which are all Regional Economic Communities of the African Union. The Kenyan Defence Forces’ contribution to the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) has been extremely remarkable in enhancing sub-regional peace.

Dr. Dlamini Zuma will also use the opportunity to implore Kenyans to join in the commemoration and celebrations of the 50th Anniversary of the OAU/AU, which will be celebrated under the theme of Pan Africanism and the African Renaissance, from May 2013.
