Rwanda 12 July 2016 - The Thirty second (32nd) Ordinary Session of the
Permanent Representatives' Committee (PRC) ended on 12 July 2016 with
strong recommendations to be considered by the Executive Council, that
officially opens tomorrow 13 July 2016, and finally to be submitted to
the Twenty seventh (27th) Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the
African Union scheduled for the 17-18 July, for adoption.
H.E. Mr. Erastus Mwencha, Deputy Chairperson of the African Union
Commission (AUC) in his closing remarks commended the Chairperson of the
PRC for his guidance, effectiveness and efficiency in conducting the
meeting in a productive manner. He appreciated the work done by the PRC
and qualified it as one of the most transformative and organized
meetings geared towards achieving the most significant and concise
recommendations over a limited time. Mr. Mwencha also acknowledged the
efforts of members of the PRC for their tireless commitments and good
relationship with the AU Commission towards achieving the continental
Agenda while addressing issues which affect the continent. This, he
said, will go a long way towards creating a peaceful and prosperous
Africa, an Africa finding its rightful place amongst international
community, and a highly competitive Africa, with the view to improving
the lives of its citizens. He further urged all the members to be
steadfast in their relationship and continue to work closely to
strengthen their good collaboration with the continental organisation.
Mr. Mwencha seized the opportunity to thank the PRC for the support
given to him and the good working relations accorded to the Commission
during his mandate as Deputy Chair of the AUC for close to 8 years.
The Chairperson of the PRC, H.E. Mr. Cherif Mahamat Zene, who is also
the Ambassador of the Republic of Chad, expressed his deepest
gratitude to the members of the PRC and the staff of the Commission for
the excellent work achieved throughout the meetings. He also thanked the
various sub-committees for a job well done to facilitate the efforts of
the Commission in paving a smooth platform to prepare for the Executive
Council. The PRC, among other issues, considered the AUC budget for
2017, to be examined by the Ministers and submitted to the Assembly for
adoption. According to the PRC Chair, the meeting has given great
attention and priority to audit matters, calling on the members of the
Commission to implement the first Ten-Year Implementation Plan of
Agenda 2063. Other reports adopted by the PRC include the one on
violence against women and girls in Africa. The PRC also considered the
agenda for the Executive Council.
The Chairperson of the PRC concluded by appealing to the Commission
to rationalize its working methods to optimize the use of time and
resources and thus enable the Assembly to focus on priority areas of the
development of Africa.
