I join my voice among other voices at this side event in TICAD to speak on the importance of Artificial Intelligence in Disaster Risk Reduction and Prevention.

SDG 2030 and our long term people centered Agenda 2063 to define “The Africa We Want” are agendas anchored on how we are prepared to develop and to harness technologies, as levers for economic growth, and sustainable development. Today we are in the fourth industrial revolution, and it gaining exponential momentum with a huge potential to reshape our economies, social, cultural and individual lives.

09 September 2019, Addis Abeba: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission Moussa Faki Mahamat commends President Salva Kiir and Dr Riek Machar, leader of the SPLM/iO, for their face to face meeting in Juba, South Sudan today.

The Chairperson is encouraged by this demonstration of commitment by the two leaders to accelerate the implementation the Revitalised Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan.

The Chairperson urges the two leaders to continue holding regular discussions and extend participation to other signatories to the Agreement.

Government of Rwanda, UNHCR, and African Union agree to evacuate refugees and asylum seekers in Libya

Addis Ababa, 10 September 2019 - The Government of Rwanda, UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, and the African Union have today signed a Memorandum of Understanding to set up a transit mechanism for evacuating refugees and asylum seekers out of Libya.
Under the agreement, the Government of Rwanda will receive and provide protection to refugees and asylum-seekers, as well as others identified as particularly vulnerable and at-risk, who are currently being held in detention centres in Libya. They will be transferred to safety in Rwanda on a voluntary basis.
