H.E President William Samoei Ruto (PhD), President of the Republic of Kenya and the African Union Champion on Institutional Reform. H.E. Ruto was appointed during the 37th Assembly of Heads of State and Government in February 2024 to champion the AU Institutional Reform process taking over from the H.E Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda who led the implementation of the reform process since 2016.

Addis Ababa, 26 February 2019: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, welcomes the historic Advisory Opinion issued yesterday by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on the Legal Consequences of the Separation of the Chagos Archipelago from Mauritius in 1965. This Advisory Opinion was delivered in response to a resolution adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on 22 June 2017, at the initiative of the African Group in New York.

Addis Ababa, 22th February 2019: The African Union Commission Deputy Chairperson, Amb. Kwesi Quartey, today, held bilateral talks with Ambassador Raul Pollak, Director General of Political Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay, Amb. Kwesi welcomed Amb. Pollak to the African Union headquarters and acknowledged the importance of advancing the collaboration between the African Union and Uruguay. He noted the African Union’s keenness to enhance its partnership with Uruguay in a number of areas, including cooperation in agriculture and agri-business sectors.
Addis Ababa, 22 February 2019: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, His Excellency Moussa Faki Mahamat, yesterday received the United Kingdom Minister of State for Africa, Harriet Baldwin MP, at the African Union headquarters. The meeting was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding concerning a partnership between the African Union and the United Kingdom.

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – 20 February 2019: The new Namibian Permanent Representative to the African Union, Amb. Emilia Ndinealo Mkusa, presented today her Credentials to the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat.
Following the presentation, the AU Commission Chairperson and the newly appointed Permanent Representative exchanged views on the importance of implementing Agenda 2063, the reforms of the Union and other policies to advance development on the continent.
