AU Launches the Johannesburg Internet Exchange as a Regional Internet Exchange Point: “Keeping intra-regional internet traffic within the Region”
Johannesburg, South Africa – 22nd September, 2016: The African Union Commission (AUC), through the Infrastructure and Energy Department, in collaboration with the Department of Telecommunications and Postal Services of South Africa and the Internet Services Providers Association of South Africa, launched the AU support to the Johannesburg Internet Exchange to become a regional internet exchange point.

23 August 2016, Cape Town, South Africa – The African Union Commission and the African Minerals Development Centre (AMDC) organized a meeting of high-level geological experts from 24 to 26 August 2016 to coordinate the African Geological Mineral Information System (GMIS) Strategy. The strategy will introduce Africa Mining Vision (AMV) compliant initiatives that will improve geological and geospatial information and its use in mining and broad development processes in Africa.

Continental Consultation on Drug Demand Reduction opens in Cape Town
Cape Town, 3rd August 2016 – The Director of Social Affairs of the African Union Commission (AUC), Amb. Olawale Maiyegun, presided over the opening ceremony of the Technical Consultation on drug demand reduction which kicked off on Wednesday 3rd August 2016 in Cape Town in the presence of representatives of partner organisations in the area of drug control as well as Experts on drug use epidemiology from AU Member States.

African Union Commission commits to curb drug proliferation in the continent and its devastating effect on Users
Cape Town, 1st August 2016 - Experts on drug use epidemiology on the one hand, and resource persons on technical consultation on drug demand reduction on the other hand are meeting from 1-5 August 2016 in Cape Town, South Africa to brainstorm and plan for the establishment of national drug use epidemiology networks and on ways to review the progress made by African Union Member States in implementing evidence-based services to address drug use, document good practices and emerging challenges with a view to improving policy formulation and service delivery.
