Agenda 2063 is the blueprint and master plan for transforming Africa into the global powerhouse of the future. It is the strategic framework for delivering on Africa’s goal for inclusive and sustainable development and is a concrete manifestation of the pan-African drive for unity, self-determination, freedom, progress and collective prosperity pursued under Pan-Africanism and African Renaissance.
H.E. Mr. Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda, was appointed to lead the AU institutional reforms process. He appointed a pan-African committee of experts to review and submit proposals for a system of governance for the AU that would ensure the organisation was better placed to address the challenges facing the continent with the aim of implementing programmes that have the highest impact on Africa’s growth and development so as to deliver on the vision of Agenda 2063.

High Level Dialogue - Gender Equality and Education

Who: The meeting will be hosted by the AU International Center for Girls’ and Women’s Education in Africa (AU CIEFFA), Royal Norwegian Embassy in Ethiopia, UNESCO-IICBA, UNICEF, Save the Children, Plan International
Participants: AUC Chairperson or her Representative, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Norway, AU Ministers of Higher Education, Ministers of Education, Ministers Responsible for Gender & Women’s Affairs; Regional Economic Communities, civil society organizations, as well as activists for girls ‘education. Private sector/ foundations and representatives of international organizations.
Objectives:
This Consultation aims to
(i) Revitalize the momentum on gender equality and women’s rights with a view to promoting internationally agreed development goals including Agenda 2063, the SDGs, as well as the Continental Education Strategy for Africa (CESA 2016-2025);
(ii) Ensure the rights to education for girls and young women, as central to the implementation of Agenda 2063 and the SDGs;
(iii) Encourage greater inclusion of all advocates for education, women’s rights, gender equality and the empowerment of women in national and international policy dialogue and decision-making processes.
