Second High Level Dialogue on Displacement

INVITATION TO REPRESENTATIVES OF THE MEDIA

What: The African Union Commission (AUC) in partnership with the Norwegian

Refugee Council (NRC) will hold the Second High Level Dialogue on

Displacement and Launch of the Africa Report on internal Displacement

2017.

When: Friday 15 December 2017, at 9:00am

Where: African Union Commission, Addis Ababa (Small Conference Hall 4)

Who: Organized by the Department of Political Affairs at the African Union Commission, in partnership with the Norwegian Refugee Council (NCR).

Objective: The objective of the high level dialogue, among others, include to addressing the impact of displacement, the gap between policy and practice, and provide an advocacy space for fostering collaboration towards strengthened domestication and implementation of the Kampala Convention.

Specific objectives:

To present the key findings and recommendations from the 2017 Africa Report on Internal Displacement and provide a forum for targeted discussion on the impact of displacement on development gains in Africa
To explore the challenges and prospect around timely and effective collection, analysis and reporting of forced displacement data at national and regional levels
To foster partnership and collective ownership in identifying the root causes, long-term impacts and immediate consequences of internal displacement
To provide a platform for stakeholders to appreciate the scale and negative impact of internal displacement and contribute to finding lasting solutions

Participants:

The event will be attended by representatives of Member States, experts from African Union Commission, RECs, UN Agencies, civil society organizations and other relevant stakeholders.

Journalists are therefore, invited to cover the opening session of the Second High Level Dialogue on Displacement on 15th December 2017 at 9:00am at the AU Commission.
