Ruto was appointed during the 37th Assembly of Heads of State and Government in February 2024 to champion the AU Institutional Reform process taking over from the H.E Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda who led the implementation of the reform process since 2016.

      ADDIS ABABA, 21 February 2019 – The Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), H.E. Moussa Faki Mahamat and Mrs Assetou Koite, president of the Pan African Women Organization signed today a Memorandum of Understanding between the AU and PAWO, thereby operationalizing the later as a Specialized Agency of the AU.
      The event follows the decision in January 2017 by the AU Heads of State and Government to grant the status of a Specialized Agency to PAWO.

      Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 19 February 2019: The Government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has invited the African Union (AU) to participate in the Expo 2020 Dubai, set to hold from 20 October 2020 to 10 April 2021 on the theme: "Connecting Minds, Creating the Future", with the sub-themes: “Sustainability, Mobility and Opportunity”. The Government of UAE has also offered a Pavilion to AU to ensure its effective participation.

      Addis Ababa, 20 February 2019: As two Member States of the African Union, the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Republic of Senegal, hold crucial elections on 23 and 24 February 2019 respectively, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Moussa Faki Mahatma, has authorized the deployment of African Union Election Observation Missions (AUEOMs) to the two countries.
